Lovin’ Life

Just lovin’ my life with Jesse

37 weeks May 28, 2009

Yesterday was my 37th week in my pregnancy. I feel like I’m a timed bomb that’s about to go off soon. When? I don’t know! I think Jesse’s very excited for our baby to come soon. He always tells me, “you’re already 37 weeks! Give birth, now!” Hahahaha!!!! He’s a happy daddy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s what I’ve been up to since the last time I wrote on my blog: SCRAPBOOKING, watching Jesse watch basketball and baseball games online (or with our friends), trying out different recipes (especially chicken recipes because that’s what we always have in the freezer), playing with our blender and my beloved mixer, etc.

Jesse watching Lakers vs. Nuggets (Game 4)

Jesse watching Lakers vs. Nuggets (Game 4)

(Game 4’s last 30 seconds) This is how Jesse is when Lakers are losing in a game —- BIG TIME! He’s too quiet! Maybe if our friend, Nate, was around, he would’ve been talking a lot? I should’ve taken a video of him yesterday (Lakers vs. Nuggets, Game 5) when the Lakers were winning so you could see the difference.. hahaha!

Towards the end of my 2nd trimester, Jesse and I gathered as much baby stuff (and pospartum stuff) that we THINK we needed. Thanks to those who sent us clothes and other things, we were able to save a lot. I must admit, it was very tempting for me to buy those cute little baby outfits whenever we went out to buy, say, bottles and baby’s health care. I’m just glad I was able to control myself as much as I could. And if I couldn’t, I asked Jesse (of course, I had to ask his permission first) if we could go to ROSS & buy some from there (Ross has almost the same brands in other stores but they sell it a lot cheaper!) One day we went to Sears just to look at the cute baby stuff they had there & I found a 3-pc set of bibs for $9.99 (I think?) from Carter’s. It was so cute, I wanted to buy it. I thought it was cheap enough. I held it for a while in my hands, admiring it, then I put it back. We went to Ross afterwards and I saw the VERY SAME set of bibs for $2.50. I was so happy! Jesse let me buy it! ๐Ÿ˜› And now that pretty much everything is here for the baby (& me), I went back to scrapbooking again.

My first set of clear stamps

My first set of clear stamps

Here are my first set of clear stamps. I don’t really know much about stamping and I’m still trying to learn but eversince I read about clear stamps, I got really interested with their ease of use and storage. They’re a little bit more sensitive than rubber stamps, though. These ones were on sale so I grabbed them. It’ll be a long long time before I’ll probably buy myself another set since we need to be frugal.. hehe.

My messy workspace

My messy workspace

Here’s my scrapbooking workspace. It’s been like this since I started on our wedding scrapbook album (January). I could only do 2 or 3 pages (max) each week (or every other week) because I tend to get lazy most of the time (when I still didn’t have a big bump) or just the thought of thinking another layout drives me nuts so I put off making another page for a few more days. Now it takes me a while because my big bump makes it harder to make a single page of scrapbook. Caleb moves around A LOT (non-stop, even) after 30 mins. of starting a page, as though he’s telling me, “you need to lie down, mom, and make some more space for me! It’s really cramped in here!” Well, here’s a peek of a few pages of the album that I’m still working on.

I didn’t do our album the way most scrapbookers do (with all those layers of papers, die cuts, eyelets, etc., in one page) because it would take me a century to finish if I do it that way (plus, I still don’t have that kind of creativity). I still have about 7 pages to do and the clock is ticking fast. I really want to finish this album before I give birth. Hopefully, I can.

Pregnancy is wonderful and amazing! I had an easy pregnancy during my first 2 trimesters. But even though I’m having a hard time now (I can’t move an inch without pain somewhere, especially getting out of bed), I will not trade this experience for anything else — not even the fun of creating a handmade card or a scrapbook page. Maybe I’m only saying this because I’ve had an easy pregnancy and never threw up and all (except for being nauseous all the time, & for those killer headaches I had during my first trimester). But still, it’s a wonderful experience knowing something — no, SOMEONE, is living inside you… already manipulating you! hahaha! Just kidding! The first little flutter of movements are such a joy! I will never forget my husband’s face when he felt our baby’s movement for the first time. I will miss his kicks inside me (they seldom hurt me) whenever I’m hungry, or have been sitting for a long time, or fast asleep (he loves waking me up in the middle of the night). We’re still looking forward to hold our precious one sometime soon– how soon, we don’t know. I’m bracing myself! Haha!

Hannah Gellor, our friend who went with us to the Big Island with her family, gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl on Feb. 17th, 2009. It was the day after we got back to Oahu after our trip from the Big Island (click here). She was one tough momma the whole time we were there. She only went to the doctor last Tuesday as another appointment for a check-up. It turned out to be her “giving birth” day.. hehe! She was supposed to be due next week, but since the placenta wasn’t nourishing their baby anymore, the doctor suggested/asked if Hannah wanted to give birth that day (since it’s going to be a c-section again). At least their baby was healthy this time and was born with no complications, unlike with Niobe. They named their newborn Charlee Leila Aracena-Gellor. She weighed 5.1 lbs.

My friend, Lei, sent me some of her scrapbooking supplies last week which I received on Tuesday. And since she sent me lots of “it’s a girl!” scrapbook stuff, I thought to make a greeting card for Hannah. I still have so much room for improvement, though. (Click the pictures to enlarge)

We went to Kahuku today for our appointment with Dr. Lyons. Jesse and I already thought of taking a video of our ultrasound beforehand. But, I THINK, due to our excitement, we forgot to bring our camera! Oh well.. maybe next time…

The last time we saw our baby, it was still very small. I was only 7 weeks then (click here). So we were very excited today to see our baby!

The first thing Dr. Lyons said was we’re not having twins. Sorry, babe! I found that funny because Jesse had been joking we’re having twins and the other one’s only been hiding all these time.

Our baby was moving a lot, too! I was just having fun looking at the ultrasound video. I didn’t want it to end. Then all of a sudden, Dr. Lyons said, “he’s moving a lot!” and pointed his mouse pointer to the right place. Jesse had the biggest smile in the world! We’re having a baby boy!!!

We got to see his heartbeat, too. Dr. Lyons also got an angle where our baby seemed to be lying down horizontally, facing us. We saw him move his mouth and touch his head… it was the cutest thing! It was as if he was saying, “Hi Dad! Hi Mom! I’m your baby boy!”

Anyway.. that’s about it. We’re so happy! ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy the pics! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday was our 2nd appointment with my doctor (April Vargus). I was 7 weeks, 6 days pregnant yesterday, weighing 109 lbs. Today I’m 8 weeks! Jesse was able to see the tinnie tiny little baby for the first time yesterday. We saw the heartbeat too. It was beating sooo fast. So small! 1.6 cm! I’m still due June 17th.

Anyway, here’s our first ultrasound copy. April didn’t give me a copy on the first ultrasound because it was too small to see. This one’s still sooo small, though. Our next appointment is next month, Dec. 2 (me dad’s burfday!)

I don’t know why it says 8 weeks and 6 days on the picture, though.

We went to Kailua last week, Tuesday (Oct. 21) to visit my Ob-Gyne, Dr. Chapman. They did the usual urine test. After the pap, she performed a vaginal ultrasound on me. I was supposed to be 6 weeks and 6 days that day. But there was no heartbeat yet so she said I might have ovulated late and I’m probably only 5 1/2 weeks pregnant (then). I saw the fetus! Gosh! It was soooo small! I can’t believe something alive is growing inside me. At the same time I felt bad ‘coz Jesse wasn’t there to see it. I left him at the lounge. My bad! We’ll have to go back there next week for another ultrasound to hear the baby’s heartbeat. Then Dr. Chapman will be able to tell when my real due date will be. I will make sure Jesse’s around by then to see the tiny growing baby inside his wifey.. ๐Ÿ™‚

The last part of my first visit was the blood test. They took 4 containers. My blood on my left arm started slowing down halfway the 3rd container (& the lady kept moving the needle around a little bit to keep the blood flowing… she’s lucky I’m not afraid of needles but that act almost made me faint!). When she started with the 4th one, the flow completely stopped so she had to do it on my right arm. Eeeeshhh!!! That day was the first time I hated needles!

So now, I have a big ugly bruise on my left arm… oh well…. at least it doesn’t hurt that bad (unless you touch it hard, of course).. ๐Ÿ˜›

Pregnancy Discovery

ย My plan was to take a home pregnancy test alone while Jesse was in school or work on any day of the week prior to his birthday if my period didn’t come. But I didn’t plan to take it on my first delayed day. I was going to keep my first day of period a secret from Jesse so that he won’t get too excited if it doesn’t come. But he asked me a week before & I couldn’t resist him so I told him.

It was October 7, 4 days before Jesse’s 23rd birthday. That was the “supposed to be my first day” thing. Jesse kept bugging me in the morning to take the test but I told him it’s too early. I convinced him we should check in the night. And we did. Having seen only negative results in the past, I wasn’t expecting we would see two lines on that free pregnancy test we got. As soon as the second line started appearing, Jesse was getting excited. I told him the line’s been there from the start already but he was still convinced that it wasn’t there before.ย

He just had a big smile that night and he kept coming back to our bathroom to check if the second line was still there (as if it would go away). I did the same too, actually… ๐Ÿ™‚ It was a surprise! We didn’t know I was pregnant until we checked that night of October 7th. I felt completely “not pregnant” that’s why it seemed so unreal that I was really pregnant. So I told him I’ll take another test the next morning.

And I did. Two different brands. One was one of the things we bought from Costco, and the other was one of the free ones we received. As soon as they were set flat, I fixed our bed (Jesse was gone to his class) & fixed myself a small breakfast. I didn’t want to check the result until 15 minutes after. Both had two lines & I could almost screeeaaamm!!! This time I was not as uncertain as the night before anymore because I took the test in the morning.

I told Jesse about the result and how many tests I took .. ๐Ÿ˜› He also checked it out.

He made me take another test the next morning again (Oct. 9) just for fun. I think he just missed seeing the two lines.. ๐Ÿ˜›

Pregnancy Questionnaire

I googled a pregnancy questionnaire just for fun & this is what I’ve found so far:

Q: When are you due?
A: June 17ish, 2009 but it’s not definite yet. We still need to go back for an ultrasound.

Q: Was this planned?
A: Yes, but still so surprising!!

Q: Have you been sick at all?
A: Not at all.. I am sooo lucky… & I guess Jesse is SOOOOO lucky too! ๐Ÿ˜›

Q: Do you have names?
A: It’s hard to decide with Jesse.. ๐Ÿ˜› J/k… We have quite a few in mind…

Q: Boy or Girl?
A: Not sure yet. As long as the baby is healthy, any gender is ok.

Q: Are you scared?
A: I’m scared of having my water break (someday) & realizing that our car’s battery is waay dead (like it does once in a while) & we still have to travel for an hour to the nearest hospital. I’m scared of going through labor & giving birth, yes! I’m scared just having the thought of getting an epidural.. yikes! (even though right now I don’t think I’ll need that… who knows) But they say it doesn’t hurt at all (‘coz going through labor is worse, I guess?) But I’m waay excited, otherwise.

Q: What has been your favorite thing about being pregnant?
A: My pregnancy still couldn’t sink in my mind because I don’t feel like I’m pregnant at all! Everything’s just so normal except I get so tired & hungry easily. I still cook our meals even though sometimes I hate the smell of the food. When my belly growsย humongous, then I would probably know what is my favorite thing about being pregnant. Maybe for now, when the ob-gyne performed a vaginal ultrasound on me was my favorite thing about being pregnant. I saw a very tiny living thing inside me!
