We went to Kailua last week, Tuesday (Oct. 21) to visit my Ob-Gyne, Dr. Chapman. They did the usual urine test. After the pap, she performed a vaginal ultrasound on me. I was supposed to be 6 weeks and 6 days that day. But there was no heartbeat yet so she said I might have ovulated late and I’m probably only 5 1/2 weeks pregnant (then). I saw the fetus! Gosh! It was soooo small! I can’t believe something alive is growing inside me. At the same time I felt bad ‘coz Jesse wasn’t there to see it. I left him at the lounge. My bad! We’ll have to go back there next week for another ultrasound to hear the baby’s heartbeat. Then Dr. Chapman will be able to tell when my real due date will be. I will make sure Jesse’s around by then to see the tiny growing baby inside his wifey.. 🙂

The last part of my first visit was the blood test. They took 4 containers. My blood on my left arm started slowing down halfway the 3rd container (& the lady kept moving the needle around a little bit to keep the blood flowing… she’s lucky I’m not afraid of needles but that act almost made me faint!). When she started with the 4th one, the flow completely stopped so she had to do it on my right arm. Eeeeshhh!!! That day was the first time I hated needles!

So now, I have a big ugly bruise on my left arm… oh well…. at least it doesn’t hurt that bad (unless you touch it hard, of course).. 😛

Lanikea Beach

On Sept. 27, 2008 Jesse took me out for lunch at Ted’s Bakery. I had their bacon cheeseburger for the first time. It was good!

Afterwards, we went to Lanikea Beach to check out some sea turtles. We were hoping we would see at least one sea turtle but we saw tons of them! 3 were on the shore, and some were by the breaking point of the waves by the shore. It was picture perfect if only I had a good camera. Every time the waves by the shore were a little bit higher, you could see the turtles swimming underwater. You could see them above the small reefs. So beautiful!

Jesse looked like a big kid who visited a zoo for the first time. He was having a good time watching this one honu (sea turtle) feed on some seaweeds. He wanted to see him/her crawl back to the ocean but every time it was about to go back to the ocean, it would stop and feed on the seaweeds again. So cute!

Pregnancy Discovery

My plan was to take a home pregnancy test alone while Jesse was in school or work on any day of the week prior to his birthday if my period didn’t come. But I didn’t plan to take it on my first delayed day. I was going to keep my first day of period a secret from Jesse so that he won’t get too excited if it doesn’t come. But he asked me a week before & I couldn’t resist him so I told him.

It was October 7, 4 days before Jesse’s 23rd birthday. That was the “supposed to be my first day” thing. Jesse kept bugging me in the morning to take the test but I told him it’s too early. I convinced him we should check in the night. And we did. Having seen only negative results in the past, I wasn’t expecting we would see two lines on that free pregnancy test we got. As soon as the second line started appearing, Jesse was getting excited. I told him the line’s been there from the start already but he was still convinced that it wasn’t there before.

He just had a big smile that night and he kept coming back to our bathroom to check if the second line was still there (as if it would go away). I did the same too, actually… 🙂 It was a surprise! We didn’t know I was pregnant until we checked that night of October 7th. I felt completely “not pregnant” that’s why it seemed so unreal that I was really pregnant. So I told him I’ll take another test the next morning.

And I did. Two different brands. One was one of the things we bought from Costco, and the other was one of the free ones we received. As soon as they were set flat, I fixed our bed (Jesse was gone to his class) & fixed myself a small breakfast. I didn’t want to check the result until 15 minutes after. Both had two lines & I could almost screeeaaamm!!! This time I was not as uncertain as the night before anymore because I took the test in the morning.

I told Jesse about the result and how many tests I took .. 😛 He also checked it out.

He made me take another test the next morning again (Oct. 9) just for fun. I think he just missed seeing the two lines.. 😛

Pregnancy Questionnaire

I googled a pregnancy questionnaire just for fun & this is what I’ve found so far:

Q: When are you due?
A: June 17ish, 2009 but it’s not definite yet. We still need to go back for an ultrasound.

Q: Was this planned?
A: Yes, but still so surprising!!

Q: Have you been sick at all?
A: Not at all.. I am sooo lucky… & I guess Jesse is SOOOOO lucky too! 😛

Q: Do you have names?
A: It’s hard to decide with Jesse.. 😛 J/k… We have quite a few in mind…

Q: Boy or Girl?
A: Not sure yet. As long as the baby is healthy, any gender is ok.

Q: Are you scared?
A: I’m scared of having my water break (someday) & realizing that our car’s battery is waay dead (like it does once in a while) & we still have to travel for an hour to the nearest hospital. I’m scared of going through labor & giving birth, yes! I’m scared just having the thought of getting an epidural.. yikes! (even though right now I don’t think I’ll need that… who knows) But they say it doesn’t hurt at all (‘coz going through labor is worse, I guess?) But I’m waay excited, otherwise.

Q: What has been your favorite thing about being pregnant?
A: My pregnancy still couldn’t sink in my mind because I don’t feel like I’m pregnant at all! Everything’s just so normal except I get so tired & hungry easily. I still cook our meals even though sometimes I hate the smell of the food. When my belly grows humongous, then I would probably know what is my favorite thing about being pregnant. Maybe for now, when the ob-gyne performed a vaginal ultrasound on me was my favorite thing about being pregnant. I saw a very tiny living thing inside me!

Crochet and Birthday Card October 15, 2008

2 weeks ago, Jesse bought 2 rolls of yarns and a crochet learning kit from Walmart. He decided he wanted to learn it, but also urged me to learn how to crochet as well. So when we arrived home, he tried it out at first. It was a little hard for him so he encouraged me to try it, and I did. Thanks to youtube, we were able to have another source of “tutorial” for crocheting other than the little book that was with the learning kit. I was learning double crochet stitch when I stopped last week. I don’t know why I’ve stopped. It’s probably because my laptop died and I couldn’t understand the english instructions in the book until I watched it on youtube, or maybe just because we found out I was pregnant and my mind was always somewhere else since then.

I also tried to make a birthday card for Jesse last week. I’m always out of ideas whenever I’m about to start making a handmade card. But what I like about it is that, even though I don’t have a layout or theme in mind yet, just by displaying things visually before me, I could come up with something. Layouts/themes/blueprints doesn’t work for me. I have to see the objects I want to use laid out on the table before I could decide what I want. It also takes me a while to decide… 😛 The second thing I like about making my own cards is the feeling I get when I’m done creating them. Sure, it could take time but it entertains me a lot! And as a wife with no job and no classes to attend (thus, no homework to do), I really need to do something productive and entertaining to consume my time. I love making handmade cards  even though I don’t have all the high-tech stuff that most scrapbook(ers) use these days. It makes me feel good when I finally get to see the final product. It all just starts with plain sets of papers, different pairs of scissors, a pencil, glue, etc. and 2 or 3 hours later… wallah!!! Sometimes I get upset with what I’ve made because sometimes they’re ugly. But even so, at least I’m using a talent I never thought I had even though I’m still not really good at it.. yet!
